Caught a train from Tours for an hour and a half and changed trains journeying through the french countryside for 3 hours to Aurrilac. We disembarked and, to quote our leader Jaime, “make a picnic “at the entrance to the station with goodies we bought together at a supermarket…baguettes, ham, pate, salad, cheese, fruit. Then we caught another train to a little village and had to wait for a bus to bring us to the gorgeous Sarlat. We opened a bottle of red wine on the platform…a unique experience! Sarlat is really lovely and very old…very french and a gourmets delight as it specialises in regional produce of Duck and Foie Gras. We wandered through the old quarter full of traditional buildings, stone streets and lovely shops full of Foie Gras, truffle oils, red wine and duck. We dined at a very nice French restaurant on Foie gras, duck breast with truffle perfume, goats cheese, Dordogne valley red wine and the local dessert speciality all for $30…

All looks good! I hope you are enjoying the Intrepid trip or you will never believe anything I say. Your big bag would have come in handy when you had to “Make a picnic!”

Yes all good! Leader good and group all joining in together. Hotels are good, made the bike ride..yay… others were no better than me. Kayaking cancelled due to high river levels but exploring and dining out in sarlat really good. Yes…the bag has been an amusement and was the best picnic table…however i have rationalised and ditched stuff and posted stuff back…Shane can say I told you so..Haha..Guess what..I’m giving my bag to the couple (they want a big bag!)and now we are in Bordeaux I’m going to make a beeline for the back pack shop..in fact right now. You would like this trip too i reckon. Had an impromtu picnic of everyones resources at a little rail station because we had to wait…pretty funny…3 euro wine and bread from the service station across the road with gourmet pate and sausage another girl had stocked up on. Touring the wine region tomorrow. Intrepid is good and all you said it would be. Talk soon, Vicki
