Hired a car and driver to take us back to the Bay of naples to visit the excavations of Pompeii which were extensive and incredible.

Capri…

Took a trip to Capri on one of Gennaroe Salvatore’s (a long time local operator in Positano) boats the ‘Donna Assunta’and circumnavigated this beautiful Island…Grotto Bianca (the white grotto), Faraglioni rock formation, swimming near Marina piccolo, Grotta Verde (the green grotto) and Grotta Azzurra (the blue Grotto) which has loads of tourists waiting to be taken by the tiny row boats inside the cave which was short, expensive but unique and the irridescent blue of the water was just beautiful! Our boat dropped us at Marina Grande where we booked Luigi and his open topped taxi to take us around. Capri town was lovely and of course full of designer shops. Lunch at ? which had spectacular views over the Marina. We drove along the narrow, cliffside winding road to Ana capri and took the chair lift to Monte Solaro for an amazing perspective. The boat ride home to Positano was quite thrilling as a serious storm had hit and the swell was quite intense….weird weather in the Mediterranean!

Fornillo Beach….

Hired our sun lounges and settled in at La Marinara for some serious relaxing and swimming! This beach has four bar/restaurants with their designated swimming and beach areas. Had lunch on the deck looking out over the bay. Came back for dinner at the family owned and run Ristorante Il Quarracinno overlooking Fornillo beach…fresh fish, pizza and lovely ceramic jugs of vino rosso!

Caught the little boat with the big red fish down the Amalfi coast to Laurito beach and Adolfos Ristorante for the day. Lounged and swam and then had lunch in the Ristorante….just fantastic!

Ferry to Sorrento…

Dinner at our local Trattoria Bruno’s…best fish in limone…Woke up to an overcast and then rainy day (what happened to our beautiful Mediterranean weather?) so took a ferry via Capri to Sorrento where the sun came out. Pizza lunch and very short exploration of the town centre before ferry home….then discovered we really should have gone by bus!

Leigh and Shane arrive….

Leigh and Shane arrived after a gruelling 38 hour point to point journey for antipasto and Italian beers…Had some sleep then hit the main beach in Positano, Marina Grande for some serious swimming and sun baking followed by Italian meats, cheeses, olives, salad and fruit for lunch. The brave and fit explored Positano before an Aperol Aperitivo on our terrace and a taxi trip to the village of Montepertuso high up the mountain behind Positano. We had dinner at Il Ritrovo and joined in with the village’s annual festival honouring the Patron Saint Madonna St maria delle Grazie. It was amazing with fireworks going off all day culminating in a very solemn display where the town lights were turned off and a lighting and fireworks display depicting the battle between the Devil and the Saint prevailed up on the actual mountain side. It was truly an amazing and spectacular cultural experience at midnight with mainly locals in attendance which was just fantastic. Managed to organise a taxi back down the mountain…logistical nightmare!

Trip to Amalfi….

Caught the ferry from Positano to Amalfi and met Kisane ( my friend from Intrepid Team 1, Paris to Madrid ). Had a fabulous seafood lunch at the friendliest Italian restaurant and then some shopping and hired beach chairs on the ‘public’ beach for a beautiful swim and sun bake!

First swim…

First swim in the waters of the Mediterranean at our ‘semi-private’ beach 200 steps down from our apartment at Spiaggia (beach) della Sponda. Pebbles, refreshing water and Floyd jumped off the cliff as the locals were doing.
